Unable to update to SP5?

Ja, ich suche eine Lösung

Hello All,

I am using Symatec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010, on windows server 2008 R2.  I downloaded the following patch, "Symantec_Backup_Exec_System_Recovery_9.0_SP5_Patch" since my version seems to be out of date.  When I ran the executable I am prompted with the following error message;

The upgrade pathc cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade pathc may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

Well, I have verified the program does exists, since I can access BESR and my backups are running per schedule.  I confirmed via another topic that this is the correct patch.  I am now at a loss..?  Any help would be great.  Reason to me wanting to update to SP5 is because I am having issues attempting to mount a large recovery point, and per my search on the forums this SP5 update should fix it..

Error message: Operation cancelled by user - but it was not

I am using SSR 2011 with an offsite set of usb drives. The way it works is that one usb drive remains permanantly plugged in while another is rotated daily. In the past the 'fixed' usb drive would overwrite itself daily while the offsite disk must be deleted manually when it gets full. Lately however I get the message below even for the 'fixed' drive.

I can see that it says 'not enough space' but as I said in the past it would overwrite the drive so long that the drive wasn't removed between operations.

How do I restore that setting?

Error EBAB03F1: The operation was canceled by the user.
Info 6C8F1C2F: A recovery point operation on drive Drive Backup of DellUtility (*:\), RECOVERY (*:\), OS (C:\), DATAPART1 (D:\) (3) was cancelled by the user.
Error E7D1001F: Unable to write to file.
Error E7D1003C: There is not enough space.

Hi,

Running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 11sp3.  I create my boot CD and then backup the /boot and root.  I do the restore to the new hardware but then the  reboot fails and I get a GRUB message in the top left corner and I can only power off the server.  I have tried using a raid 5 set of disks and a single disk.   So where to from here, any ideas will be appreciated

I had to reinstall my OS that is Windows 8.1 Pro, 32 bit and therefore reinstall all my software including SSR 2013, version 11.0.2. and I do get the following error messages trying to create a backup of a partiton.

Error E4F3000E: Snapshot failure while using Volume Shadow Copy Service.
VSS errors:
Error code: vss_e_provider_veto (-2147212538)

(UMI:V-281-1267-14). Before my reinstall SSR did work perfectly. I send some screen shots and did run the "vssadmin list providers" and only Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider was listed.

Offsite Copy not working: Error ED800012

Ja, ich suche eine Lösung

I am using SSR 2013 on my PC (using Window 7) and cannot get the Offsite Copy feature to work.  Currently, my main backup is to an external Western Digital Mybook drive connected by USB to the PC.  I have the SSR set to create a new full recovery point every month, and an incremental backup every evening.  In the settings for the backup job, I have selected the Offsite Copy option.  The destination for the Offsite Copy is another Western Digital Mybook also connected to the PC by USB (labelled as the G Drive).  Every evening, the SSR does copy some files to the G Drive, but with many problems:  (1) when I try browsing the files on the G Drive, SSR give me an error message that says "ERROR ED800012: The internal structure of the recovery point file (Last File Frame) is invalid, damaged or unsupported"  ; (2) the total file size of the backup on the G Drive is about half the file size that is being copied; and (3) the files on the G drive include those from the "C" drive on my PC but not the "D" drive on my PC (a logical partition).   None of these problems exist on the SSR backup job on the main backup drive.  I had assumed that the Offsite Copy would be essentially the same file as on my primary backup device, but it is not.  If someone can direct me to the right resource to research this problem I would appreciate it.

SSR 2013 How to improve FTP off-site copy performance?

How can I improve off-site copy performance via FTP?

Is there any "undocumented" tuning feature or is any RFE required to achive that?

SSR 2013 Desktop Edition is running on Windows 7 and off-site copy is sent to a remote server via FTP.

The hosts are connected through 10Gb ethernet.

Transfer rate of FTP protocol between the host is 300MB/s or more.

It is an actual rate when I tested to send SSR backup images to the remote server using a bundle ftp command of Windows 7.

However, off-site copy performance is up to around 100MB/s under the same environment. The both hosts are not so busy.

Almost 10% of network workload and 30% of disk I/O workload during the off-site copy. Much CPU/Memory resources are free.

The admin guide never describes any feature or tunables to improve the FTP performance.

I opened a Symantec case and asked about that. But the answer was "no such feature is available".

I wonder if any "undocumented" feature or tunables are implemented on SSR 2013.

Or performance improvement on FTP off-site copy will be provided by a patch or in the next release.

Any advice or information?

SSR2013 creates unscheduled Base Recovery Points

Why is my system creating unscheduled Base Recovery Points. I have my backup job set to run every day and do 5 incrementals each day. A new Base Recovery Point should only be created the first day of the new month. For some reason I am getting new Base Recovery Points several times in a month. I am running Windows 8.1 update 1 as a standard user. I do hibernate my system each evening and do a shutdown or restart occasionally.

Where is Windows 8.1- "User Account" Folder Saved??

Ja, ich suche eine Lösung

I'm a long-time GHOST user (since around 2005) and was recently using version 15.0 on Win XP SP3. Then I upgraded to Win 8.1 and had to switch-over to Symantec System Recovery (SSR). I have now installed the 60-day trial version.

Seems OK. I've done one Full Recovery Point and it works just like GHOST.

But...on that saved Recovery Point (RP) it only seems to have the info for my main HDD drive (C:). I do not see anything on that RP for my Windows User Account Folder (RobbyStellarSeed) where many important files exist (b/c Win 8.1 won't let me save some things to C:).

Especially problematic here is my Mozilla Profile data which is in this User Account Folder -- very imporant items like bookmarks and history in Firefox -- and all my saved emails in Thunderbird.

Can anyone clarify things for me on this?

Appreciate any help.

Robby (can't see my "signature" in the Preview; not sure it was accepted.)

Procedure to boot from cloned disk

Ja, ich suche eine Lösung

Good morning. Currently we are in search for procedure to make cloned C drive using SSR2013.

We have 1 PC (x64, Windows 8.1), which we have to create a clone, to use it as emergency replacement of the production desktop PC.

The backup image of C: drive has been taken using SSR2013 (installed on C:). Image is stored in 1 aditional SSD attached via SATA cable on the motherboard. This SSD is re-plugged into the backup PC.

I have used drive-based backup in SSR2013 via Easy Setup dialogue box. (Backup my computer > In Drives Panel, selecing C: drive.)

The plan is to use SSR disk to boot to the backup PC, and restore the image, stored in the SSD attached via SATA cable. However; does it boot if we complete the recovery process? Do we need doing any MBR-related operations?

I would be grateful if you possibly could indicate any resources, technical note, or procedural steps.

I would apreciate for your suppport in advance.

Backup/Recovery to smaller harddisk

Good morning. I would like to have your support for procedural clarification.

We need to backup and restore to the smaller sized disk. Currently we have a disk of 800GB (used space is 65GB: The disk is overspec.) We wish to restore the drive into the disk of 120GB.

The motivation is to replace current SATA disk into SSD for fault torelance purpose. The PC is used for a specific purpose (an application) and disk-usage is considered as static (do not increase nor descrease).

Would SSR2013 capable of handling recovering C: drive into smaller disk space? If so, would you possibly indicate any resources/procedure/steps for our review?

I would appreciate for your support in advance.

Recovery Disk can't detect UEFI recovery point

I'm using SSR 2013 SP2 trial version on a GPT/UEFI computer.

When an image recovery attempted within windows, the available recovery points are listed as UEFI in the Image Firmware Type column.

However, when an image recovery is attempted using the Recovery Disk, the same recovery points show as BIOS based in the Image Firmware Type column.  Attempting to restore shows a cue stating:  Cannot restore BIOS based recovery points on UEFI based computers.  Please select a UEFI based recovery point".

Any ideas?

Thanks, Gary

Upgrading Smaller HD to Larger HD

Ja, ich suche eine Lösung

I'm using SSR 2013 version 11.0.2 boot CD to upgrade an 80GB hard disk to 250GB. SSR 2013 is not installed on the Windows XP PC.

The (source) 80GB disk is partitioned into C (40GB) and D (40GB). I was able to boot off SSR2013 CD to backup the 80GB HD (both partitions) onto an external USB HD. I successfully restored the data to the larger, 250GB, hard disk. The problem is I end up with the same C (40GB) and D (40GB) partitions. There is a remaining 150+ GBs unpartitioned (and of course unused).

How can I rearrange partitions during the restore? My goal is to have a fully functioning (bootable) 250GB HD which is partitioned into something like C (80GB) and D (170GB). Is that even possible?

When Restore image windows server 2003 (32bit and 64 bit) or 2008 by symantec system recovery 2013 sp2 during restore show up 2 messages about 2 drivers Netwok and storage after finish the continuously restarting

I tried these solutions from symantec when create case :

1- Load valid drivers from hardware vendor page and convert that fils in to .inf format and then load in SRD.

2- Create custom SRD from machine

3- During restore bring up hidden option
In the hidden option check only "Delete Existing drivers and remaining option should be unchecked.During restore bring up hidden option

but every methods above didn't help me !

Note : I tried restore images for other sites and restore completely 100% without any problem but in this site have a problem i dont know why !!!

My customer is running Windows Server 2012 with BESR 2013 (11.0.2.49853). The backup has been running okay for a few weeks but suddenly BESR stopps at 5%. BESR is up to date according to Live Update and Server 2012 is up to date as of a couple of weeks ago. The event log shows that the backup has started and the console shows Creating Recovery Point and it is stuck at 5%. I am going to get the server rebooted tonight but I was just wondering if anybody had some good ideas (I have been Google'ing but nothing really jumps out at me).

SSR 2013 backups and Mozy Pro backups?

Ja, ich suche eine Lösung

Purchased SSR 2013 to backup a Windows 2008 R2 domain controller/file server to a local NAS appliance.  This is to supplment our existing Mozy Pro offsite backups that push incremental file changes to the cloud.  I have succesful initial recovery points but have not been able to run incremental (or any Symantec backup) after Mozy Pro runs.  We recieve this VSS error everytime: Error E4F3000E: Snapshot failure while using Volume Shadow Copy Service. Please check application event log for VSS errors. Error code: EndCreateSnapshotSet (-2147212302)

If I reboot the server and run a Symantec backup before Mozy runs, it will complete successfully.  However, if Mozy runs first, Symantec will fail.  Mozy runs normally either way.  We have Symantec scheduled at 10pm and Mozy scheduled at 2am, they are not overlapping.  It seems to me Mozy does something to VSS to cause Symantec to fail and rebooting the server clears or resets the problem.

Anyone run both SSR and Mozy together successfully?
